  3. The following files should be included on this disk. All text files are
  4. pure ascii files, i.e. there are no printer control characters such as
  5. form feeds,etc.
  6.  
  7. I suggest you first print out MergeIt.Doc (but read "Quick Start" below).
  8.  
  9. Before doing the tutorial, you'll need to print out Tutor.Txt. (It would also
  10. be helpful to at least look at the PCX image sections EschrB1.PCX and
  11. EschrB2.PCX in an image viewing or painting program). In the tutorial, you
  12. will merge these hand scanned image sections together. The line drawings in
  13. Frame.Doc will not directly print correctly, read this file on your monitor
  14. first.

  16. To get started, copy all these files to one directory, excluding graphic
  17. driver not appropriate to your video system (i.e. if you have hercules,
  18. don't copy the driver file "EgaVga.BGI", otherwise don't copy driver
  19. "Herc.BGI"). Of course, you may choose to not put the documentation
  20. files (*.Txt and *.Doc) on your hard disk.

  35. RotBtHlp.ras      MergeIt.Exe.

  53.                       ***  Quick Startup ***
  54. If you want to try out MergeIt "cold" on your own scanned images and figure
  55. the program out as you go (without doing the tutorial) then I suggest you
  56. start with a printed image in the landscape orientation. It should have a
  57. width under 8" so it can be captured in two adjacent left and right image
  58. scans. Read the first part of "MergeIt.Doc" on 'SetUp-Physical Orientation'
  59. to get the jist of how "MergeIt" merges.
  60. When scanning, allow for a little overlap (~0.1") and try to start each scan
  61. at the same vertical place. Title the right image "ImageA1.pcx" and the left
  62. one "ImageA2.pcx" and use the initial values file "Manl-01.Ini". Choose
  63. unrotated merging to more easily see the merging/trimming process. If you set
  64. your hand scanner to 200dpi, you'll see one inch of image at a time. Use
  65. the cursor keys to get the top edge of the displayed merged region
  66. correctly aligned. It is particularly important that the image overlap be
  67. correct. (If you are working with unrotated images, this corresponds to
  68. <=> motion of each section.) Then turn on auto trimming and work down the
  69. image, doing any manual line insertion/deletion as needed.
